Homeschooling

We get to sleep in most days!

Seriously, it is a perk when you are not a morning person!

Besides sleeping in, homeschooling had been in the back of my mind since the girls were small. I have a lot of unpleasant memories of public school, as does Luke, and when his job moved to Georgia and he became a work from home employee, it gave our a family a rare opportunity. We decided to try it out, and over the past 7-8 years, we’ve done it all. Online curriculum, workbook curriculum, local homeschooling classes, play dates, field trips, YouTube videos, hands on experiments… You get the idea.

Homeschooling gives us the freedom to dive deeper into subjects of interest. They can spend more time on the things they love to do, which leads to more learning overall. That freedom extends into all aspects of our lives. If someone is sick, we don’t worry about makeup work. If daddy can take a day off during the week, we can surprise field trip somewhere. The YMCA  has open swim during the day and school is in session, we get a less crowded pool.

The following are resources we’ve used over the years…

Khan Academy

Prodigy Math Game (we upgraded to the yearly subscription)
