Summer Storm

August in Ohio isn’t fun. It’s hot and sticky and everyone is trying to get in last minute vacations and back to school shopping trips.

It does however make some powerful storms. We had one roll through yesterday. We had pea sized hail fall for 11 minutes, lots of close lightning strikes, two storms merge into one, so the wind directions were all over the place, and the temperature dropped 20 degrees in a half an hour.

See, lots of lightning. The barn across the street is always my go to when filming from the front porch.

Then the hail came! We actually had enough that even after the storm was over, you could still see it on the ground. If you watch close at the video below, you can see the hail bouncing in the grass.

I love storms. I love watching the clouds and feeling the wind. My favorite weather is that cloudiness and light breeze that picks up right before a storm blows through. I try to show the girls how awesome nature is, but, I guess not everyone can be a fan.

Lilly shared her ear buds and phone with Avery to distract her from the sound of the hail hitting the windows.

Storms are a great way to spark science conversation when you homeschool though. Cloud types, why hail forms, why do we hear thunder, how is lightning created?

Until next time!
