Road Trip: Atlanta, Georgia – Part 3

2:51 pm | |

Our final day in Atlanta was spent at the Georgia Aquarium. We had seen some marine life before at various zoos, but actually seeing such a variety at an aquarium was a first for all of us.

We could have easily spent the entire day there (and they are open until at least 9PM most of the time). There were movie options, behind the scenes opportunities, diving opportunities, animal feedings, and animal shows.

We caught the end of the penguins marching, and we got to the Dolphin show late enough that the only seats available for free were the splash zone seats. We didn’t get too soaked though, and Lexi and Lilly got picked to come up and twirl by the glass to make the dolphins twirl (no pictures are allowed during the show).

There were lots of viewing areas, and even a tunnel to walk under some of the aquarium. They had areas where you could touch some of the sea life, tunnels to crawl under and through some of the exhibits, a dining area, a large gift shop, and plenty to see!

The tunnel to go under some of the aquarium had a movable path, so you could just stand there snapping pictures and not trip over someone. All of the areas had fact plaques for all of the animals. Honestly you could probably sit here all day and try to identify everything that swims by!

There were many viewing areas, so big, some small, and almost all of them you could find a way to sit and watch for hours.

This was one of the largest viewing areas. Behind me was a few rows of bench seating. It was amazing to get right up to the glass and be that close. I’ve never dived before, but it if this is any indication as to how that experience may feel, it’s gotta be absolutely stunning.

The jellyfish are always amazing to watch.

For anyone that loves the ocean, or animals, or both, the aquarium is a must see. It’s located in an area of Atlanta near the lots of other sites that we hope to see the next time we make the trip, like Centennial Olympic Park, The Civil Rights Museum, and the Coca-Cola Museum.

Our way home was pretty uneventful. We started before the sunrise, and managed a peaceful drive full of rolling hills, trees, and highway. We went through Kentucky this time, and it was the first time in the state for the four girls, so we stopped and had lunch at a Kentucky Fried Chicken, because why not have KFC in Kentucky!

Amazingly, the KFC was just like our KFC at home lol! Still, the girls thought it was hilarious that we were eating KFC in Kentucky.

Overall, it was a fun, yet tiring trip. There are so many things to see and do down there, and with Luke’s work being located in Georgia, I’m sure it won’t be our last time there!
