Minimalism: Clearance Clothing

7:07 pm | |

Over the weekend we had a quick trip to Pennsylvania for a car show/wedding anniversary getaway. Along the way we found a shopping center that included a Target…

I love Target. My closest store is 35-40 minutes away, but when we are that way, I can always find something I “need”.

I dislike clothes shopping, but I will always peruse the clearance rack, because who can resist a deal?! “It’s not about what you spend, but what you save!” revolves in my head.

That’s not great when we are a household of 6 and there is clothing everywhere! I want to be more minimalistic with our wardrobe, so instead of grabbing things willy nilly, I took a moment and reflected the image of my closet, then I looked at the racks. Summer was on clearance, but pretty picked over, so my new motto for Summer shopping is “Summer Before September”. After the back to school craze, but before mid September seems to be the time to find Summer items on clearance.

In the end, I spent $76.46 on ten items, five of which can be used year round.

The captain’s hat was $3.88 and can be used all year (except maybe during cold Winter blizzards). The bras were $15.38 and $13.28. They can be worn with or without straps, and obviously can be year round items.

The bags were $5.98 each. Bags can be used anytime, and they are large enough to suit a variety of purposes.

The 3 tank tops were $4.00 each. The blue and blue striped spaghetti strapped tanks match the blue of the hat and bags (and the reason the strapless bras were purchased). The other tank has wider straps and it black. The two pairs of shorts were $9.98 each. One blue, one black.

Navy blue, black, and cream seem to be my appointed Summer colors for next year. I may attempt to add on a couple t-shirts in the same colors or a complimentary color, and one or two more pairs of shorts.

Now I just need to go through my closet and release some things I no longer wear!
