Day 64: Homestead Happenings

10:00 pm | |

We had a few storms pop up around us today, but only a light sprinkle here at the house. It was however, hot and humid. We broke 80 degrees Fahrenheit!

Here’s an update on the Robin nest! Holly’s hobby class: Bird Edition – Day 11

WE HAVE A BABY!

Incubation is supposed to be 12-14 days, but they can start incubating the nest after the first egg is laid, so even though this is Day 11 for all four eggs being there, it could very well be day 12 or more for the earlier eggs.

The webcam stopped last night so we had to do a hard reset this morning when she popped off the nest, which is why we have a closer nest picture.

As you can see, later on we ended up with another hatched baby!

Luke worked on our mower deck. It’s a 20+ year old mower my dad gave us, and we have all beat the crap out of it. It had a spindle break through some metal, so he did some welding and got it working again so we could mow the chicken yard.

I also did some bird watching from the porch, and discovered a toad living in our wagon handle.

I put some honey out on the porch and a few people already purchased some! I think I need to expand into my very own tiny farmer’s market!

Honey, an Oriole, and a fire to end the day!

Stay safe! ☄🌟
